How to Get Rid of Roaches In Your Garage

Many homeowners deal with roaches in their garage when the weather gets warm. Here at 1st Rate Garage Doors, we know how frustrating that is to our customers. Even though your garage is part of your
home, it can be a breeding ground for bugs.

If you are dealing with this in your home, take these steps to get rid of them:
1. Get Rid of Their Food Source
Look around your garage and see if there is a food source that might be attracting the bugs. For
example, if you store pet food in that area, it can be a food source for the roaches. Make sure you
store food in an airtight container. Also, sweep up any food that falls in the floor right away.
2. Get Rid of Their Water
It doesn’t take much water to satisfy bugs. You might have a small leak in your water heater that is
barely filling the overflow tub. Or you might be dealing with condensation on the walls. No matter how
much water is present, bugs will be attracted to it.
3. Get Rid of Their Bedding
Bugs like to live inside of boxes that you store your clothes and other items in. It is best to take all
things you are storing and place them in a plastic container. Roaches will eat the glue inside of a box
and burrow in it as well.
4. Put Out Roach Bait
You can buy roach houses at Walmart or online to set out in your garage. Make sure that the houses
are out of the way of kids and pets. It is best to place them near potential food, bedding, or water
sources. These are areas where they will hang out. Putting the traps near these locations will draw the
bugs in.
5. Call an Exterminator
Some roach problems can be handled with poison you can buy at the store. Other times, you need to
bring out an exterminator to spray down the baseboards, under cabinets, and outside. You might
notice more bugs coming into your house once you get rid of their food, water, and bedding.

Also, it is not uncommon to see bugs start out in the garage and over time multiply to other areas of
your home. It is important to take care of these bugs as quickly as you can. The longer you wait, the
bigger the infestation.
